Configuration of the "Recommended Items" feature

The recommendation feature allows you to suggest additional items to customers during checkout based on the contents of their cart. Recommendations are displayed as a separate block on the cart page and help increase the average order value and improve cross-selling.

Important! If you have multi-catalog enabled, the system automatically filters recommendations according to the customer’s delivery address. Items that are suspended for a specific address will not be displayed — no additional configuration is required.

Configuring recommendation mode:

  1. Go to the Control PanelLocations tab.
  2. Select the location you want to edit.
  3. Go to the General settings tab.
  4. In the Recommendation mode field, choose how items will be displayed.

5.Click Save.

Available settings:

Recommendation mode. This setting controls the overall behavior of recommendations for the entire location.

  • Disabled — recommendations are not shown to customers.
  • Random — one random item from each active category is suggested (excluding categories already present in the cart). This is the default mode for all companies.

Algorithm: the system selects one random item from each category, except those categories whose items have already been selected by the customer. Only active categories with active items are considered. The number of returned items is limited by the request parameter (default: 4).

  • Smart — recommendations are based on manual rules for each category, which are additionally configured in the product catalog when editing a category.

Configuring smart recommendations:

  1. After enabling the Smart recommendation mode, go to the Catalog tab = Items = Categories = edit each active category and configure recommendations for it.

  1. In each category settings, there is a Recommendations tab = Create button.

  1. In the Category field, select the category whose items will be shown as recommendations for the category you are editing. That is, when items from this category are in the cart, the recommendation rule applies.
  • Max dishes — Maximum number of items to recommend from this rule (1–50).
  • Priority — Defines the order in which rules are applied. Lower values = higher priority.
  • Show if product from this category is already in cart — If the toggle is active, items from the recommended category will be shown even if the customer already has items from this category in the cart. If disabled, the rule is skipped.
  • Smart dishes — Enable to manually choose specific items for recommendations instead of random selection.
  • Selected dishes — When custom items are enabled, choose specific items. Use drag-and-drop to set their priority order. After enabling this toggle, the field for selecting recommendation items becomes available.

Selected items can also be prioritized by rearranging them in the display list.

How recommendations work with the "Multi-catalog" feature

When multi-catalog is enabled at the company account level:

  1. The recommendation request includes the customer’s delivery address.
  2. Items suspended for that specific address are automatically excluded.
  3. Categories suspended for that address are also excluded.
  4. No additional configuration is required — filtering happens automatically.

Important! This works only when multi-catalog is enabled at the account level. If multi-catalog is not enabled, all active items are available for recommendations regardless of the address.

Use cases

Example 1: Basic recommendation setup

A pizzeria wants to show suggestions without manual configuration. Set the company’s Recommendation mode to Random. The system will automatically suggest one item from each category not yet present in the cart.

Example 2: Custom cross-sell for drinks

The company wants to always recommend drinks when a customer adds pizza to the cart:

  • Set Recommendation mode = Smart.
  • Go to the Pizza category → Recommendations tab.
  • Create a rule: Category = Drinks, Max dishes = 3.
  • Enable Smart dishes and choose the top 3 drinks, arranging them by priority.
  • Save.

Example 3: Multi-catalog scenario

A restaurant chain has multiple locations. Cola 0.5L is suspended at Location A but active at Location B. When a customer orders from Location A, Cola will NOT appear in recommendations. When ordering from Location B — it will be available.

Frequently asked questions:

1. What is the default recommendation mode for new companies?

Random mode. All companies have Random recommendations enabled by default.

2. Will items already in the cart appear in recommendations?

No. Items already in the cart are always excluded from recommendations.

3. What happens if “Smart” mode is selected but no rules are configured for a category?

Recommendations for that category combination will not be shown.

4. Does the customer need to do anything to see recommendations?

No. Recommendations appear automatically on the cart page if the mode is not "Disabled" and there are items in the cart.

5. Can “Random” and “Smart” modes be used at the same time?

No. Only one mode can be active for the company. Choose “Smart” for precise control or “Random” for automatic suggestions.

6. How does priority work when multiple recommendation rules apply?

Rules are applied in order of priority (lower number = higher priority). Items are collected from each rule until the overall limit is reached.
